About Albany Men's Lacrosse
The University at Albany is a public research university in Albany, New York, founded in 1844 and one of four "university centers" of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. The campus enrolled 17,567 students in 2024 across nine schools and colleges, with portions extending into Guilderland. The university is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research spending and doctorate production" and maintains a research enterprise with annual expenditures of $115 million focused on social science, public law and policy, life sciences, and atmospheric sciences.
University at Albany men's lacrosse competes in the America East Conference and plays at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium in Albany, New York. Under head coach Scott Marr, Albany has established itself as a consistent NCAA Tournament participant, with the program earning its first-ever NCAA tournament appearance in 2003.
Scott Marr is the head coach of Albany men's lacrosse and led the Great Danes to their first NCAA tournament appearance in 2003. In 2007, Marr's team won Albany's first-ever NCAA tournament game, earning him the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Coach of the Year award. He previously served as the offensive coordinator at the University of Maryland and University of Delaware.
On May 2, 2026, Albany men's lacrosse defeated No. 3 Vermont 14–11 to claim its third consecutive America East Tournament championship, improving to 11–5 overall with a 6–0 conference record. Ryan Doherty was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player with five goals and two assists, while the Great Danes officially clinched their NCAA Tournament berth. Albany subsequently drew the University of North Carolina for the NCAA Tournament second round on May 9, 2026.
