How RecruitPlan Rankings Work
Each school's individual rank (1–500+) is based on a 4-year average of end-of-season team performance, using Massey Ratings as the underlying data source.
Schools are grouped into 12 performance tiers to reflect meaningful differences in long-term program strength.
Tier structure (approximate):
- • Tier 1: ~6 elite programs
- • Tier 2: ~15 programs
- • Tier 3: ~20 programs
- • Tier 4: ~35 programs
- • Tiers 5–12: broader competitive ranges (roughly 50–80 programs per tier)
Across-Division Comparison
RecruitPlan compares teams across all divisions, allowing programs like Middlebury to be ranked alongside Louisville or Richmond based on performance.
Important Context

Recruiting Reality Check
Rankings describe teams. Recruiting happens year by year — based on roster needs, not rankings.
Recruit Plan provides college lacrosse rankings for men's and women's programs across all divisions. Our tier-based ranking system helps families understand the competitive landscape — and why rankings alone don't tell the full recruiting story.
